Sausage and Potato Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

 

1 pound ground sausage (or breakfast sausage)

 

4 cups diced potatoes (or frozen hash browns)

 

1 small onion, chopped

 

2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)

 

1 can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup

 

1/2 cup sour cream

 

1/4 cup milk

 

Salt and pepper to taste

 

Chopped green onions for garnish

 

Butter for greasing the dish

 

MIX:

 

Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish with butter.

 

Cook the sausage: In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Break it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain off any excess fat and set aside.

 

Prepare the potatoes: If using fresh potatoes, boil them until slightly tender, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and set aside. If using frozen hash browns, there is no need to precook them.

 

Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, potatoes, chopped onion, shredded cheese, soup, sour cream, and milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

 

Assembly: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.

 

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

 

Garnish and serve: Once cooked, remove from the oven and let stand for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped g

reen onions before serving.
